STONE CARVING
Stone carving is not heavy or hard work, it is suitable for all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes. Stone used will be Kilkenny Limestone, Portland Limestone or Granite, blocks of various sizes will be available.
Participants may have a project in mind and we encourage you to bring along sketches, etc (keep it simple) as this will leave you more time for the actual work and less time searching for inspiration!
It is envisaged that each participant will have a piece to take home ,and your 'masterpiece' can be placed on this website for the whole world to see.
This year we are introducing a 5 day workshop as well as the regular 3 day workshops. See courses link for details.
This website is created with WYSIWYG Web Builder from http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com
BASKET MAKING
We are continuing our two day basket making workshop, using our own organically grown willow. This workshop will be given by Padraig Larkin, a professional basket maker and teacher VISIT PADRAIGS'S WEBSITE and see some of his work
Each participant will weave two baskets to bring home. Time permitting there will be an opportunity to see our willow beds, where you will marvel at the rate of growth of the intrepid sally rod!
As we draft in our basket making tutor from outside, the running of this workshop is dependant on sufficient numbers of participants.
The workshops are run from our home here in Holycross, approximately 4 miles from Thurles and 8 miles from Cashel. Holycross is a small village on the border between North and South Tipperary, divided by the River Suir. We are located opposite the 12th Century Cistercian Abbey -which is now restored and used as the Catholic Church and has been the venue for several celebrity weddings. Holycross is a picturesque village which attracts lots of visitors every year. VISIT HOLYCROSS ABBEY
The Craft Granary is a beautifully restored 19th Century grain store located in Church St. Cahir, Co Tipperary. It acts as a showcase for quality handcrafted items from the South East of Ireland. We have developed this site to promote crafts in cyberspace.
